A Christian nurse named Joni was driving home from a late hospital shift when a drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into her car.
She survived, but she suffered months of surgeries, pain, and rehabilitation.

The drunk driver, a 19-year-old boy named Evan, survived with only minor injuries.

When Joni heard this, she felt angry, bitter, unfairly treated.
Her thoughts were:

“Why me?”

“He ruined my life.”

“He deserves punishment.”

Every time she thought of him, bitterness came. She stopped smiling, stopped praying freely, and felt spiritually numb.

She later said,

“The offence was not the accident — the offence was the poison in my heart.”One day, while reading Matthew 5:44 (“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”), she felt convicted.
She realized:

Her physical wounds were healing

But her heart wounds were not

Bitterness was controlling her life more than the accident itself

She prayed:

“Lord, help me see him through Your eyes.”

That night she dreamed of Evan as a young scared boy, broken inside, without God.

She woke up crying — the offence broke.

She wrote a letter to the court saying:

She forgave him

She did not want him sent to jail

She requested he be put into a rehabilitation and community service program

The judge accepted her request.

The story hit local news — people were shocked.

Evan later visited her (with permission).
They both cried. He said:

“I don’t deserve forgiveness.”

She answered:

“Neither do I — but Jesus forgave me.”
